Tonight’s feature is the illustration on page 56, Mushrooms.
There was something very Macintosh about the way I rendered everything the first time around. A little to methodical and perfect. What I learned from rendering subsequent drawings over the last couple of months is that allowing for some irregularities and variation makes the areas of tonality much more interesting.
Also, it really helps to follow the perceived contour of the shape instead of ignore it. Instead of always using the same angles, wrap the lines around the form you’re trying to create. The most obvious example is the stem of the large mushroom in the foreground.
Lastly, I realized that the story arc included Naio at this point, but I forgot to add her to the image. Bonus! I get to draw my favorite character again.
